Arlington, VA - Brimming with authentic foods, crafts and top Tango, Pop and folkloric performers directly from Argentina, the 26th Annual ARGENTINE FESTIVAL takes place on SATURDAYMAY 18, 2013, at 4:00pm at Thomas Jefferson Theater, 125 South Old Glebe Road, Arlington, Virginia. MC’s Patricia Romiti will host the event and volunteer. A Special event will remember MC Mario Martinez y Palacios. Highlights include the U.S. Debut of Argentina’s “Queen of Song, ”MARIANA CAYON, and LOS CEIBALES, both of whom conquered the Cosquín 2013 festival with their fresh fusion of folklore and Latin sound rhythms. ROBERTO LEIVA is a famous Argentine Tango Singer with personality, manly approach, and a great tanguero voice. ESTEBAN CORDOBA, an acclaimed pop singer with his new album "VIDA," performs Latin pop ballads, and the internationally renowned FERNY and MAGIC REQUINTO is the only popular female "requinista" performing this style of simultaneous singing and tap dancing.

MARIANA CAYON, Argentina’s “Queen of Song”, plays the flute as her main instrument, as well as sikus, and all related instruments. Her website is located at www.marianacayon.comLOS CEIBALES, traditional Chalchalero folklore singers of the province of Salta, are the most popular band in Cosquín, the "Mecca of Argentine Folklore". The singing of ROBERTO LEIVA reminds us of the golden decade of a former genre, but with a modern approach. His talent led the legendary Nelly Omar to invite him to share his first Luna Park performance in 2005. He also has shared the stage with Estela Raval, Sergio Denis, Hugo Marcel, Nestor Fabian, the full orchestra Gigi de Angelis and has appeared on TV shows with Silvio Soldán. The ambassador of tango of Boca Juniors “Resurgence Boquense,” ESTEBAN CORDOBA, showcases the Latin pop balladeer’s style, and the internationally renowned FERNY and MAGIC REQUINTO “is the only popular "requinista" female of Argentina, with her style of singing and tap at the same time. CARLOS GUTIERREZ has enjoyed a career of more than 30 years as a professional Argentine Tango dancer and teacher. His elegant masculine style of dancing has inspired thousands of people - encouraging them to greater skill in their own dancing. He is the author of "The Body Language of Wing Dance" and "Wisdom in Action,,." His next book "We Are Not Here Alone in the Universe" will appear this year. Carlos Gutiérrez will dance with Anna Yeghiasarian, Carolyn Michael and Kathryn Abdul-Baki. His website is at www.joyofdancestudio.com.

ALERT: Osvaldo and Adela’s workshops are very popular! They dance together as a duo and will share the rich texture of the Argentine Danza Criolla at the festival. Cristian Peréz is a guitarist and composer born in Argentina with Bachelor's and Master’s Degrees in Music
 
(Jazz Studies and Classical Guitar) from George Mason University. He is now working in the area as a soloist, in duets, trios and ensembles with diverse instrumentations interpreting various musical genres. His music blends jazz with South American music, and it is also influenced by classical guitar music. Cristian Pérez Quartet. Featuring Joe Whitney (sax),

Claudia Gargiulo, theArgentine born singer, is known for the clarity of her voice. She now promotes Argentine tango and contemporary Latin American music in North America. Cantoral TR3S showcases the best of Argentine and Latin American folklore in the Washington area! Some well-known local tango dancers complete the program, including Tino Bastidas, Diego Bastidas and Susan Reynolds, well-known for their style and the passion of Tango Argentino and who will also lead the tango informal contest show, and Patricio Lizárraga and Nadine Fricke representing the School Latin Dancer Inc. Patricio specializes in Latin dances, and takes a special pleasure in the Argentine tango, surely inspired by his father Humberto Lizárraga. Elizabeth and Alexey Semyonov participate in Tango events in the Metropolitan area of DC and Salvatore Yesterday Music. Also featured is an exhibition that showcases music, arts and crafts, truco, jewelry makers, tourism, a silent auction of Emilio Mignone’s book, and sketches by illustrator César Carrizo, "Afiche".

Documentary producer C. A. Tuggle will be on hand at the Hall of the Theater to talk about his film: Las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and the Search for Identity. The film, which has won an international Indie Award of Excellence, tells the story of the grandmothers' 35-year search for grandchildren, stolen, they believe, by the military during Argentina's Dirty War. To date, the organization has recovered 108 of an estimated 500 appropriated grandchildren.
 
Tentative: May 4th- "OPEN EMBASSY ARGENTINA" is from 10am to 5pm. Escarapela of Argentina will be freely shared! This is a free event! The Embassy of Argentina and the community invite the whole family to see visual arts, dancers and artists, exhibitors and more surprises!
