WASHINGTON, DC – The Latino GBLT History Project (LHP) cordially invites you to the 8th Annual DC Latino Pride Celebration. This year’s multi-day DC Latino Pride celebration will include four exceptional events to celebrate the history, identities, cultural diversity, and health of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Latinas and Latinos. “The Latino GLBT History Project is proud to continue in the tradition of our founder Jose Gutierrez to celebrate LGBT Latina/o culture and history during the Pride season. Now in its eighth year, DC Latino Pride has grown into a multi-day celebration gathering upwards of 800 LGBT Latinas/os and allies. The celebration is made possible with the support of over 25 community volunteers and 35 non-profit, government, and corporate sponsors and partner organizations,” said David M. Pérez, president of the Latino GLBT History Project.
Alexa Rodriguez, Transgender Youth Program Coordinator at La Clínica del Pueblo said, “My colleagues and I are thrilled to represent La Clínica del Pueblo’s ¡Empodérate! Youth Center on the DC Latino Pride advisory committee. It is ¡Empodérate!’s second year of stepping up in this leadership role to provide staff, volunteers, and meeting space to plan Washington’s most exciting Latino celebration during Pride season. La Coronación, Latino GLBT History Project’s Royal Court Coronation on Sunday, May 25th from 10:00pm-2:00am at Cobalt, 1639 R Street NW, Washington, DC 20009. The night will feature the coronation of our 2014-2015 Royal Court members: Gladys Gonzalez, Miss Latino GLBT History Project 2014-15; Juan Alvarez, Mr. Latino GLBT History Project 2014-15; and Ana Gómez, Miss Latino GLBT History Project 2014-15 who represent transgender, gay, and lesbian Latinas/os who have given volunteer service to the metro DC community and commit to represent LHP in media interviews, at community events, and recruit volunteers for LHP over the next year. Special drag performances by Roxy Saint Cartier, Mayline Guerrero, Jamaica Rouge, Sylvana Duvel, and Stephanie Millers. A $5 donation supports the Latino GLBT History Project’s DC Latino Pride events; 21+ to enter with valid ID.
La Plática Panel Discussion: Community and Family Supporting Latino LGBT Youth, join us on Thursday, May 29th from 6:00pm-9:00pm at the Human Rights Campaign Equality Forum, 1640 Rhode Island Ave. N.W., Washington, DC 20036. The evening will include a panel discussion about the challenges faced by LGBT Latino youth, community and family acceptance during the coming out process; followed by a reception with appetizers and wine, a community resource fair; free HIV testing, DC Mayor’s Latino Pride Proclamation, and a historical HIV exhibit, “Positivamente Latinos”. This event is free and open to the public – all ages welcome! A suggested $5 donation supports refreshments, appetizers and the Latino GLBT History Project’s DC Latino Pride celebration.
La Fe Interfaith Service, we invite you to a Spanish and English bilingual LGBT inclusive interfaith service co-hosted by Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC Spanish Speaking Ministry and Grupo Latino Dignity Washington, DC in celebration of LGBT Pride month on Saturday, May 31th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The service will take place at MCCDC, 474 Ridge Street NW, Washington, DC 20001. Following the service we invite you to join us for light refreshments, cultural performances and socializing. All faiths are welcomed.
La Fiesta Dance Party, DC Latino Pride’s Official Dance Party on Thursday, June 5th from 10:00pm-2:00am at Town Danceboutique, 2009 8th Street, NW Washington, DC 20001. La Fiesta will feature Lineysha Sparx from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5, DJ Joe El Especialista from El Zol 107.9fm & DJ X Gonzalez, host Juanita Dior, Jocelyn Carrillo of Majestic, and DC’s best Latina Drag Kings & Bio Queens: Sugar Cane, Dawn McSmiley, Diego El Sabroso, and Enzo. An all-night Latino Pride dance party spinning DC’s best Latin and house beats is the perfect way to kick off Capital Pride weekend! 18+ with valid ID. Proceeds support the Latino GLBT History Project's year round programs to preserve history, cultural celebrations, and educational presentations at local and national conferences.
This annual tradition, anticipated by LGBT Latinas, Latinos, and allies, creates spaces to remember Latino LGBT history and celebrate our diverse identities.
