Washington, D.C. – Bridging the intense international cultural rivalry of between Buenos Aires and Montevideo over tango, GALA is presenting dance and vocals woven around the story of tango in its production of Puro Tango 2. From its humble, working class origins among women challenged with scores of social taboos, Hugo Medrano has crafted a soaring, sizzling series of songs and steps captivating in its melodies and motions.

Touching tango vocalists Nelson Pino, María de los Ángeles and Elisa Cordova frame the musical in sensuous style.  Argentine dancers Jeremías Massera and Mariela Barufaldi tango flawlessly with precision and flair.

No one was more engaged during this performance than pianist Alvaro Hagopián and Nario Recoba on the bandoneón with Dominic Martínez on bass. Intense, electric and exuberant, this trio was having the kind of fun on stage that powered the performances. Accomplished international musicians can do this and these masters delivered.

GALA company member Cecilia de Feo emcees the music and dance with extravagant execution and style that hits the right notes.

The company tells us that Puro Tango 2 pays homage to the creators of tango and to the groundbreaking role of women in tango. GALA Theatre accomplishes this by presenting tango in its very best light.

Puro Tango 2 will run at GALA Theatre from June 5 through June 22, 2014. For more information visit, www.galatheatre.org or call 202 234 7174.
