Washington, DC – The nonprofit Second Genesis will feature two films and a panel discussion on food and health this Thursday, June 10, to expand access to local low-income community members.
“Nora!”, a film discussing Nora Poillion who started the first certified organic restaurant in D.C., will start off the event followed by “Fresh”, a documentary focusing on the innovators in the sustainable food movement including Joel Salatin and 2008 MacArthur Genius Award winner Will Allen.
It is the premiere for both films in Maryland.
A panel discussion after this films will highlight Susan Toppings, the coordinator of the Capitol Area Food Bank, that gives low-income gamilies access to fresh produce through Clagett Farms and From the Ground Up; Lynn Burke from Second Genesis on gardening as therapy; and Val Robinson, creator of the Hip Hop Diet program that address teaching workshops on nutrition focused on low-income African American females with addiction issues.
