Friends of the American Latino Museum and LatinVIP Host 15th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Celebration Marks the Fifth Anniversary of the National Museum of the American Latino Commission Report, “To Illuminate the American Story for All”

Washington, D.C. [CapitalWirePR] April 27, 2016 – The Friends of the American Latino Museum (FRIENDS), the only organization dedicated to creating a national museum of American Latino history and culture on our National Mall, is co-presenting with LatinVIP.com, a Latino special events and networking organization, in hosting the 15th Annual Cinco de Mayo Networking Happy Hour, Thursday, May 5th at Cities Restaurant & Lounge  (1909 K Street, NW, WDC). The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. and feature drink specials and live music from Los Gallos Negros!

“This year also marks the 5th Anniversary of the National Museum of the American Latino Commission report, “To Illuminate the American Story for All”, presented on May 5, 2011 to the President and the U.S. Congress. The report outlined the need for and viability of a Smithsonian museum on the National Mall dedicated to the history of Latinos in the U.S. dating back hundreds of years prior to the founding of our nation,” stated Estuardo Rodriguez, Executive Director of the FRIENDS. “We are excited this year to use this signature gathering of Latino professionals in the DMV to highlight the need for Congress to act on the Commission report and move forward with reintroducing and passing the Smithsonian American Latino Museum Act. It is imperative that we continue the legislative efforts to make this museum a reality.”

Since its inception 15 years ago, the Cinco de Mayo celebration has become the largest gathering of Hispanic professionals outside of Hispanic Heritage Month events attracting no less than 600 attendees every year. With the large and diverse number of organizations and businesses that participate, this annual event has become ideal for networking and also for socializing with old friends and making new ones.

Presented by Target, we are grateful to co-sponsors, Constellation Brands, distributors of Corona and Corona Light, and Washington Hispanic. We are also joined by the following co-hosts for the event:

·      CHCI Alumni Association – DC Chapter

·      Hispanic Federation

·      Hispanic Lobbyists Association

·      Hispanic Bar Association – D.C.
