Marta Lucía Ramírez, Vice President of Colombia and Wendy Kopp, CEO of Teach for All to present the Inter-American Dialogue's Leadership for the Americas Awards

WASHINGTON, DC  – The Inter-American Dialogue is honored to announce thatMarta Lucía Ramírez, Vice President of Colombia and Wendy Kopp, CEO of Teach for All, will present this year’s awards at the Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala on November 12, 2019. Some 300 dignitaries from around the world are expected to attend the event at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC.   

The Leadership for the Americas Awards honor individuals who have dedicated life-long service to the Dialogue’s mission – advancing democratic governance, social equity, and prosperity in our hemisphere.

The Vice President of Colombia, T.H. Marta Lucía Ramírez, will present the Distinguished Leadership Award for Social Equity to Roberto Vélez, CEO of the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, who will receive the award on their behalf.
  
Vice President Ramírez is a former senator, minister of foreign trade, and past presidential candidate. She was also Colombia’s first woman minister of defense. She has been the CEO of multiple private sector companies and private associations, including ANIF, the financial institutions association of Colombia and the Coalition for Colombian Manufacturers Development. She has published several books such as Innovation for a Competitive Manufactures Industry in Colombia and Colombia under the International Indicators. The Vice President is a long-time Dialogue member and has served on its Board of Directors.
 

Wendy Kopp, CEO of Teach for All will present the Distinguished Leadership Award for Civic Engagement to Alejandro Ramírez, CEO of Cinepolis.

In 1989, Kopp founded Teach for America to address educational inequity in the United States. In 2013, she transitioned to her current leadership role at Teach for All, where she adapted Teach for Americas’ model to the rest of the world. Currently, the Teach for All network is comprised of partner organizations in 51 countries in six continents. Kopp has been recognized as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people and is the recipient of numerous honorary degrees and awards for public service.
