In recent weeks, a United Nations assessment found that several million Venezuelans are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, while a UN fact-finding mission concluded that the Maduro regime has committed crimes against humanity in an effort to quash its political opposition. While a political solution in Venezuela remains stubbornly elusive, advocates, diplomats, and public officials have sought creative means to respond to the systematic human rights abuses and complex humanitarian emergency in the country. These include the UN independent fact-finding mission and a successful initiative to use frozen Venezuelan state assets to fund Covid-19 response efforts.

To discuss these developments and the potential for additional creative responses in Venezuela, the Dialogue is pleased to present "Venezuela's Humanitarian and Human Rights Crises: The Search for Innovative Responses." The panel discussion will include the presentation of a major new report to be published on September 30 by the Dialogue's Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program, Corruption and Crisis in Venezuela: Asset Repatriation for Humanitarian Relief. The report includes detailed proposals for using the recovered proceeds of Venezuelan corruption to address the humanitarian emergency in the country.
