Austin, TX - Attendees will hear about the benefits and resources available to companies that export/import or are thinking of entering new markets. There are many resources available to local companies to access the competitive advantages of engaging in foreign markets. Just one example is the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), an area designated by the federal government and treated as outside of the customs territory of the United States. Businesses in Central Texas which operate a FTZ may achieve customs treatment equivalent to operating outside the U.S., and in that way the FTZ "levels the playing field" for U.S. businesses competing with foreign operations.
There are various benefits that a company may receive by being designated as a FTZ. These benefits include the elimination of import duties, reduction or elimination of inventory tax, inverted tariff, deferral of duties, reduction in merchandise processing fees, quota alleviation, and reductions in brokerage fees. Participants will learn more about the FTZ and obtain an overview of export/import opportunities.
