LOS ANGELES, CA – The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) for more than a decade, and in collaboration with other civil rights organizations, Change the Terms, and Stop Hate for Profit have been working towards holding platforms accountable to follow their own policies. 

“Twitter has done what is right for our country today, and has permanently suspended Donald J. Trump's account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” said Brenda Victoria Castillo, President & CEO, National Hispanic Media Coalition. “Once again, we call on Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet Inc and Google, Mark Zuckerberg, Chairman & CEO of Facebook, and other social media platforms to do the right thing in safeguarding America’s democracy.”

On January 6, 2021 the world witnessed President Trump encourage domestic terrorists to take arms and take over the United States Capitol. The attempted coup was not successful, however lives were lost. White Supremacists, Right-wing extremists, and Donald J. Trump use hate speech via social media platforms to divide, confuse, and recruit supporters. Their actions are violent, hateful and un-American.

NHMC is a 35 year old nonprofit 501(c)(3) civil rights organization that was founded to eliminate hate, discrimination, and racism towards Latinos and other marginalized communities. NHMC collaborates with other social justice organizations to eliminate online hate, hold online platforms and Media accountable. The National Hispanic Media Coalition is committed to safeguarding democracy in the United States of America.
