Baltimore, MD - In observance of National Financial Literacy Month, the William & Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation and Viviendi’s Sana’s Y Seguras present a premier financial literacy workshop in Spanish for Baltimore’s Latino Community, the city’s and the nation’s fastest growing demographic.

The FREE, community event, Mi Dinero, Mi Destino kicks off April 18 at 10am with opening remarks from Lindsey Bishop of the Mayor's Office of Immigrant & Multicultural Affairs. The event runs until 3pm at the Southeast Anchor branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library (3601 Eastern Ave, Baltimore, MD 21224).

“Immigrants have been strengthening our neighborhoods and growing our economy. The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant and Multicultural Affairs understands the importance of connecting these communities with the financial and asset-building tools to enhance their financial stability and leverage their ongoing contributions within our neighborhoods and commercial districts. We applaud the William & Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation and Viviendas Sanas Y Seguras for their initiative in addressing the financial needs of Baltimore’s Latino community and for promoting tools and partnerships that will continue to make Baltimore a place of welcome and opportunity for all,” noted Catalina Rodriguez-Lima, Director, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant and Multicultural Affairs.

The event aims to bridge the economic divide that exists among Baltimore City’s Latino community. The seminars on budgeting, savings, credit, identity theft protection and home buying will equip the Latino community with the financial know-how, tools and best practices to make informed decisions about their personal finance.

The dynamic line-up features Eric Davalos, community lending officer, M&T Bank; Lourdes-Montes Greenan, vice president and community development banker, PNC Bank; Michael Muñoz, vice president and credit administration manager, Howard Bank; Glenda Sierra-Schulz, housing counselor, Southeast Community Development Corporation and many more.

“Howard Bank is passionate about financial education. We are pleased to support this event    and its effective outreach to the newly arrived and growing Hispanic population in Baltimore. The seminar’s title “My Money, My Destiny” really says it all and we are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference,” said Mary Ann Scully, CEO, Howard Bank.

The event is organized by two Open Society Institute Baltimore Community Fellows, Lanaea C. Featherstone and Agatha So, who are leading social change programs for the Latino Community in Charm City.
