McLEAN, Va. – In promoting the successful Passport to Education program, The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (VAHCC) will screen a premiere of the documentary, Underwater Dreams, a compelling story about the importance of cultivating the hidden potential of today’s Hispanic youth, at CapitalOne Headquarters on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Underwater Dreams is an inspiring documentary about four Hispanic high school students who competed in a national underwater robotics competition against universities all across the nation, and beat MIT to take first place.

“This epic documentary highlights what the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce does to support the future workforce of tomorrow, with the dynamic Passport to Education Program,” said Michel Zajur, VAHCC President. “Passport to Education inspires Hispanic students to pursue higher education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the arts, impacting the lives of families throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

Hispanics are the largest minority and the fastest growing segment of our labor force, making the education of this community crucial to the future of Virginia and the United States. However, Hispanic students hold one of the highest dropout rates in Virginia, due to early entry into the workforce to help provide for their families. Programs such as Passport to Education provide educational opportunities to students and help parents understand the importance of higher education and the impact that it brings to their child’s future.
