Washington, DC - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), the nation’s premier Latino youth leadership development and educational organization, welcomed Ruben J. Gonzales as its new Vice President of Philanthropy.  Gonzales began on May 4 and will focus on building and managing relationships with CHCI’s most crucial funders, including foundations, corporations and individual major donors.

“The importance of empowering young people and developing the next generation of Latino leaders is one of my own personal core values so I am thrilled to join the CHCI familia,” said Gonzales. A quarter of young people in U.S. are Latino and by CHCI’s 40th anniversary in 2017 we plan to double the number of young people we serve.  I am looking forward to growing our support from corporations, foundations and individual major donors so that we can continue to offer young Latinos the best opportunities for leadership development.”

“We are thrilled to bring Ruben Gonzales on board to be a part of the next phase of growth for CHCI,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO.  “Ruben has an impeccable résumé and a proven track record of transforming organizations and taking their fundraising to new heights.”

Prior to joining CHCI, Ruben led all fundraising, marketing and communications efforts at United Cerebral Palsy as its Chief Development Officer where he doubled its largest annual fundraiser, Steptember, increased support from individuals and corporations and dramatically grew its social media presence.  Ruben also previously served as the Deputy Vice President for Resource Development at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), Director of Development at the Urban Assembly, a school management organization based in New York City, and with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) as Director of Volunteer Management.

In 2010, Ruben was named an American Express NGen Fellow at the Independent Sector and in 2011, was recognized by MillerCoors’ Lideres program as an outstanding leader within the Hispanic community for his achievement, vision, and commitment.  In 2013, Ruben was named by The Advocate magazine as one of their Top 40 Under 40 for his leadership on behalf of LGBT Latinos.   Ruben holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Santa Clara University.
