Washington, DC – After 33 years leading Mary’s Center, Maria Gomez has announced she will depart at the end of the year.

In a basement thirty-three years ago, Mary’s Center came to life to meet an urgent need for Central American immigrants fleeing war and poverty. 200 women were served with prenatal care that first year. Today, the organization operates in seven locations across the region. Today, more than 60,000 people from all walks of life are served with a full range of healthcare, education and social services.

Carlos Marroquin, Mary’s Center’s Chief People Officer, and Maria Gomez will support the Board of Directors in the new CEO search that will be led by executive search firm Spencer Stuart.

What’s next for Maria Gomez? First, she will spend more time with friends and family. She goes on to say “my resolve to broaden access to healthcare and advocate on behalf of under-served communities will not end with my departure. Please know that Mary’s Center and all of you will forever remain in my heart.”
